Guynelle Stewart Memorial Scholarship Winners for 2011
Each year the Fort Walton Beach Community Chorus offers two scholarships to graduating seniors in Okaloosa County who will be furthering their education in music at the college level. The winners of the Guynelle Stewart Memorial Scholarships for 2011 are:


Anna Bethea is a graduating senior at Ft Walton Beach High School. She is a member in the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Tri-M (Modern Music Masters). Some of her accomplishments are : First Chair Clarinet at Fort Walton Beach High School Symphonic Band, Florida All State Band Member: 5th chair clarinet, Okaloosa All County Honor Band Member:1st chair clarinet and concert master and many academic awards including Knowledge Master Open/Academic Team Participant (9-12th grade), 16th in national online calculus competition involving over 600 participants, National Merit Commended Scholar. She has a grade point average of 4.69. She has been accepted to Samford University, Mercer University, University of Alabama, University of Southern Mississippi and Troy University. She plans to share her love of music and her faith as an elementary music teacher, a church music leader or a college clarinet professor. She hopes to instill in others a love for music and inspire them to pursue their musical dreams.
Joseph Sung is a graduating senior at Rocky Bayou Christian School. He is a member of the Beta Club, Junior Classical League, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. He has special honors as a Furman Scholar, Gardner Webb Scholar, 1st place in Classical Piano at the Florida Associations of Christian Colleges and Schools of Fine Arts Competition, 1st place in Mozart Piano Competition, 1st place Sonata Competition.His activities have included Student Government Academic Prefect, Mu Alpha Theta Treasurer, President and Parliamentarian of the Junior Classical League, and Parliamentarian of the Beta Club. He is involved in his Church Youth Group, Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, Pianist and organist for Forest Lake Bible Church and Church of the Lord. He was also a teacher for Summer SAT Math Camp. He is currently Music Director at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church full time. He plans to attend college and pursue a double major in biomedical engineering and music performance. He has a grade point average of 4.8. He has been accepted to Cedarville University, and is waiting for notifications from University of Florida, Princeton University, Harvard College, Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Duke University and University of Chicago.
Both students will be receiving scholarships in the amount of $1500.00 each.
Scholarships are open to all high school seniors in Okaloosa County.
Students in all musical disciplines will be considered.
Scholarships are a grant.
Selection is made prior to the Spring production.
Applications are given to area high school guidance counselors.
Applicants may demonstrate vocal or instrumental talents.
They must audition before a five-member scholarship committee.
The winners are invited to perform at the Saturday evening Spring show.
Both recipients received $1500 toward their future college studies.
